Multi‐Annual Monitoring of the Water Vapor Vertical Distribution on Mars by SPICAM on Mars Express

چکیده

The distribution of water vapor with altitude has long remained a missing piece the observational dataset on Mars. In this work, we present first multi‐annual survey profile covering range from 0 to 100 km based SPICAM/Mars Express occultation measurements. During aphelion season, remains confined below 40‐60 for all Martian years observed. highest where can be spotted is between 70 and 90 during southern summer (Ls=240‐300°; perihelion season), approaching transition middle upper atmosphere. without global dust storm (GDS) show significant moistening atmosphere (∼100 ppmv) in hemisphere, confirming seasonal impact hydrogen escape rate. two observed GDS, MY28 MY34, substantial disparity response. MY28, which coincides solstice, creates largest excess both hemispheres at >80 km. This climatology will supply robust statistical basis address long‐term processes

ESA's Mars Express Mission – Europe on Its Way to Mars

Introduction In the broad context of planetary science, Mars represents an important transition between the outer volatile-rich, more oxidised regions of the accretion zone of the terrestrial bodies (asteroid belt) and the inner, more refractory and less oxidised regions from which Earth, Venus and Mercury accreted. Its size, the degree of internal activity, the age of its surface features, and...

Observations of the nightside ionosphere of Mars by the Mars Express Radio Science Experiment (MaRS)

[1] The vertical structure of the nightside ionosphere of Mars and its dependence on solar zenith angle are currently poorly determined, as is the importance of two key sources of nightside plasma, electron precipitation and transport of dayside plasma. We examined 37 electron density profiles of the ionosphere of Mars at solar zenith angles of 101 –123 obtained by the Mars Express Radio Scienc...
